Lower Steering Column Bearing
«

I have a 70 Challenger. The other day I noticed the steering column where it enters the engine compartment looked odd. The column in not centered, in fact it is angled! Some older posts on the site state that there is no lower bearing from the factory, just a collar to stop metal on metal I guess.
I will try to post a picture. Just want to make sure this a "normal" and that I shouldn't get all excited.
Thanks in advance!

I have some pics from my '73 but I am not sure exactly what I am looking at. Look at the pics and see if they help. The second pic you can see the lower shaft and the white/yellow plastic clip that holds the dust ring (rubber/foam?) that centers the shaft in the column tube. Hope it helps.

the plate on the firewall has oversized holes to allow the column to be moved to center the shaft up , loosen the 3 bolts on the floor plate & move the column until it is centered better & retighten the bolts

Thanks! I'll try to center it so that it does not rub. The white plastic piece is just to keet road dirt out? Do you know where I can find one?
Thanks again!

I replaced mine thru Year One. I could not find the page but I have seen them on
as well. Some sell as a kit and I have seen one kit that could be mounted w/o disassembly. The one I found under general search I listed below.
