Pics from local show on 8/23
« on: September 01, 2009 - 10:48:38 AM »
OK, so it was the Chevy Picnic, put on by the local Chevy club, but it was open to all pre-1972 American cars.  It was held at Embarcadero Park (Seaport Village to tourists) in San Diego and the weather was glorious.  There were a few Mopars and about a half-dozen AMXs that for some reason I didn't get a picture of.  After wandering around the show for awhile, my family and I went and had lunch.  By then, the show was over, so we walked over to the driveway and watched most of the participants cruise by on their way out.

First the Mopars:
1935 Plymouth hotrod.  I didn't see this one at the show, so I don't know what it had under the hood.

I really like this '50 Plymouth Suburban.  It was \6 powered with a bunch of Clifford performance parts on it and sounded really cool when it cruised by.

Original owner '69 Valiant Signet with a built 360 in place of the original 273.

1966 Hemi Satellite...I want this.

Another cool one - a '68 Belvedere San Diego PD traffic patrol car (318 powered).  It's part of the San Diego Police Historical Society collection.

Last of the Mopars I shot is this '70 Satellite Road Runner clone.  It was small-block powered, but had a couple of cool NASCAR-inspired touches - note the wheels - and it had  right side-exit exhaust.

There was also a chocolate brown '68 Barracuda and an orange '70 Swinger that I didn't shoot for some reason.   :dunno:  I'll post some of the other cars (GMs and Fords) after work.

Here are some of the other makes.  First the GM rides.

1941 Chevy

A pair of vintage Caddys

Highly modified 1950 Buick.  The hood was a one-piece powered clamshell - hinged at the front like a Corvette.

1952 Chevrolet convertible - you gotta like this.

1954 Buick Skylark - every time I see one of these, I wonder what the Buick stylists were thinking with those wheelwells.

1954 Chevy

1955 Chevy Nomad - if you offered me both this and the Plymouth Suburban, I'd have a tough time choosing.

1958 (?) Corvette - I think it's a '58, after looking at several photos of other ones.

1964 Nova wagon - my Mom had one of these when I was a kid.  I still remember the night we went to buy it in 1970.

1965 Nova - I'm unsure of the years of all these Novas.

1966 Nova

1967 Nova - can you tell I like shoebox Novas?

1967 Malibu - I think this may have had the best paint at the show.

1967 GTO

1969 Camaro - Is it or isn't it a real Yenko Z28?

1971 Camaro - could even be a 70 1/2 - when these are done right, like this one...

Another Camaro - maybe also a '71

A couple of nice Olds Cutlasses

The Fords and oddballs.

Ford hot rod w/ Hemi power

1940(?) Ford custom

1950 Fords - I love these old school rods.

1957 Continental Mark II - before it was a Lincoln, it was just a Continental.  You'd think the guy coulda paid to have the front fender color-matched.

1962 Galaxie 500 - I'm also a big fan of the early 60's Galaxies.

Cobra - don't know if it's a gennie or a replica.

Ford Anglia wagon - we saw this guy leaving the show - he needed those wheelie bars.

1971 (?) Pinto - yes, a Pinto.  With the original 1600 cc engine.  It was clean, but... :horse:

1972 Ranchero ProStreet - possibly the fastest thing at the show.  604 Boss Hemi (the Ford version) with NOS.  Sounded very mean.

Ambassador wagon - my wife said her family had one of these growing up.  That's my wife and son.
