Clutch break in

I am putting a McLeod B&B clutch kit in the 'Cuda along with a Passon A833 with the 2.66 gearset. McLeod recommends that the clutch gets broken in for 500 miles in stop and go driving.
Is this really necessary? What will happen if I don't go easy on the clutch for 500 miles? I have put clutches in my cars before, and never broke them in. I never had a problem with a clutch.

iot just gives the clutch some time to get fully seated in before pounding on it , when  clutch is brand new you typically get 50% of the contact area , it is good to give it some time to get full contact before getting hard on it

Hmm we had to replace a clutch in a POS little car back in shop class 20 some years ago. The shop teacher took it out for ride and was flooring it many times and said the clutch is slipping we had to do it over.

Some other guys finished the job up the second time and it slip on them too...we still got a poor grade on the job.

Maybe the clutch just need to be broke in before full power?

neils right, outta the box, your best odds are 80%. 

better to do lots of gear changing, work the clutch, not drag it or glaze it.
then after a coupla hundred miles of waiting, and anticipation,...   :popcorn:

squeeze off a giant ripper, boil the hides, and drive on down the road, and enjoy your new clutch.

my friends Coronet makes so much torque that it is very difficult to start off from a stop , it is a balancing act between spinning the tires & stalling the engine , when it was new he was having difficultly engaging the clutch smoothly but got the hang of it , now that he ahs a few miles on it , 2000 or so the problem is getting worse , the clutch has more bite than ever + the engine has seated in & is making more power & more power is getting to the ground as well as he puts it " the traction control is malfunctioning "  :smilielol:
