8 point cage
« on: July 27, 2004 - 03:59:12 PM »
How much stiffer will a welded in 8 point cage make my chally?  I want to go road racing and I want the car stiffer....am I on the right track?  I have done all the other suspension mods one can do including moving the battery to the trunk.  I have already added weld in subframe connectors.  thanks for the input

ti makes a huge difference , anytime you can crate a triangle the stiffness increases substantially

Kowalski,

My Chally is entirely made of lightweight fibreglass, and I have a 6 point cage and frame rail stiffeners.  It makes a SUBSTANTIAL difference.  Were it not for the cage, I would twist the body in half the first shot outta the hole!  My friend Chris says it's like driving a surfboard...especially going over speedbumps.  There is NO body flex, and you can really feel it.

I am considering a roll cage for my Challenger as well, anyone have any particular information on which one is best or which one will work best in a driver? I too have a high torque power plant and need all the stiffening I can get. I have done weld in frame rails too. My project is in the ideal spot right now to install the roll cage if that's what route I go. 8 pt 10 pt, access in and out of the car, can the original seats alll be used? etc. any help will be appreciated.  ???
Thanks!!!

You can have a custon bar built that can be shaped to fit stock interior, fi you plan to race the car the rule book will have specifics that cannot be altered , if you  just want the bar for stiffness , you can customize the bar to fit your needs . For example NHRA requries that the door bars are high enough to be within 6" of your shoulder & must be welded to 6" square plates bolted through the floor  , other rule books like SCCA ,  Ralley , Nascar all vary how the bar needs to be built & what material is used etc

Very delayed thanks, this is good info, I will have to decide which way I am going with this and may or may not end up with a cage.
Thanks Psycho!
