What is the best way to clean up a carb to make it look new again? Soak it in some carb cleaner???

I hosed the heck out of my old one with an aerosol carb cleaner. It looked better, but not like new. Maybe soaking is a better idea, but I would wonder what that would do to the gaskets.

Metal polish. I had this paste tube of Blue magic metal polish and worked well. Time consuming but worth it.
