When you're finished getting this to shift right, Make sure that you check that your throttle doesn't stick at wide open throttle. That's the linkage that does it. Just open it all the way with your hand and see that it returns.

Keep sliding it up till you get passing gear. You will probably find out that when you get where you need it,it is going to keep your throttle blades from going wide open. Let me know if it does.

how would the linkage prevent the throttle plates from opening up all the way .. I thought once it shifted 1-2-3 then the kcikdown would work correctly?? obviously i am wrong can you explain???

You can have the ratio's wrong between the lever on the carb and the lever on the transmission. If the lever ratio on the carb is too slow, then you have to increase the adjustment to make up for it. Then the lever on the transmission can be maxed out in it's swing travel and the carb is not all the way open yet. Did I explain that OK?

You can take the short throttle valve lever off at the transmission, cut a section out of it and weld it back so it is shorter. That makes the ratio faster down below.
