A year and 18 days ago Neil posted about Race City in Calgary being shut down for good...

It was the same track I had asked you members to go to a link to sign the petition and help out...

Well....some really great news came out of Calgary today...the higher powers actually listened to the people !! McIver's motion to keep Race City open passed 8-7  :jumping:

Calgary Alberta's racetrack has been given an extended lease that will see racing in Calgary go till at least 2015 !!

Attendance the last two weekends has been over the top...

"Friday’s Secret Street in support of Race City was packed to capacity.  Racers and their cars filled the entire parking lot, which in the past has hosted 800 to 1,000 autos.  The bleachers were filled with approximately a thousand race fans for what may be one of the last Secret Street events ever held in Calgary."

I would bet there will be some car building going on over the Winter for next Summer's race season...now show some appreciation for the facilities and get attendance where it has been the last two weekends!

One bad thing about Race City is the track is crap...not sure how much the owner is willing to put out in repairs and upgrades even with this extended lease....hopefully people there will get it together and start looking seriously for a new location...especially while it is a hot issue

Race fans and car enthusiasts can thank Alderman McIver who was always behind keeping the track open then he got Alderman Mar on the bandwagon as well...the two of them I heard really helped in getting the lease extended..on the other hand Alderman Farrell was no help at all  :blah:

Good for Calgary in these times of race tracks closing up all over...

These are the Calgary politicians that voted for and against...in keeping race city open...hehe guess Calgarians know who to vote for next election   :stirpot:
