why are pitman arms different

hi, i have a 72 cuda with powersteering.i want to change my pitman arm,but i notice the arm for 70-72  is more money than 73-74.can either one be used.i am assuming there must be a difference since prices are much lower for newer years,thanks

The differences on why the 70-72 pitman arms vs. 73 and up is that the spline dia. where it connects to the PS Box is smaller on the 70-72's. There were more made of the 73's up. This may be the reason why the later ones cost less. Rick Ehrenberg sells the Pitman arms at a good cost on E bay. I haven't seen anyone at a better price.

He sells both types. Make an offer to him. He's flexible on prices.

thereis another difference , the pitman arm sits above the center link & the tapered shaft drops through the center link  down on the early pitman arms , the later pitmans the arm is much longer & drops below the center link with the tapered shaft point up through the center link , the tapered hole in the center link reverses

Where are you getting that information?  My 73 Challengers pit arm drops down into the center link as does this 74 Cuda.

Ok well I have seen them with the reversed hole in the center link
