1971 E-body steering wheel options?
« on: October 03, 2009 - 03:11:27 AM »
My car came with the standard black 3 spoke with wood grain wheel. I am thinking Barry posted once that rimblow wheels were not offered in 1971. I would like to know if there is anything other than the standard wheel that was offered that year. I have a half rim horn ring that attaches to a standard wheel from a 70 Challenger and have always liked the rimblow. In the past I always preferred the 2 spoke 72-74 wheel but it just looks out of place anymore on a 70 or 71 to me. Just wondering if there were other options from the factory.

So the rimblow was available on the 'Cuda but not the Challenger? I thought the Challenger was supposed to be the higher optioned car between the two? I was trying to post pics of the 70 and 71 Challenger steering wheel options but could not because its a pita to post pics right now for some reason.

there are other topics about this, and if I remember, the early 71 cudas could order the rimblow I think because they had some leftover from 70

I say put whatever you like on it.  The Tough wheels are hard to beat.   I had a rimblow on my 70 Challenger and it looked great.  I also like the 72-74 two spoke like you said.  I've seen them covered with leather and color matched to the interior and they really looked sweet.

Yep Chris you hit the nail on the head. I have the original wood rimmed 3 spoke wheel but it has a crack or maybe 2 in it. I never really liked them anyway. I dig the rallye steering wheels and rimblows. Even the half rim wheel is neat because its different. My original plan was to use one of the rimblow look alikes without the rivets if they ever put them out and either a tuff wheel or riveted rimblow look alike if they dont. I am sure there were a few 71 Challengers that snuck out with the rimblow or half horn ring so it will not look too out of place anyway.
