Performer RPM intake (P/N 7176) hood clearance?
« on: October 07, 2009 - 01:55:43 PM »
Hi,
I'm thinking about replacing the Edelbrock Performer with a Performer RPM intake on my 340 Cuda. I know that the Performer RPM is taller and I'd like to keep my stock air cleaner. Is anyone here running a Performer RPM on a 340 with a stock air cleaner? if so, how close is the air cleaner to the bottom of the hood?
Thanks.

I am running the RPM on my 440 and the only way I could get an air cleaner on it is to buy one of the Drop Base cleaners. The inatke and 750 holly fit but not with a normal air cleaner. I ran a Mr Gasket drop base ( $ 15.99) with a MP filter & top and keep the air cleaner stud as low as you can.
I don't know if the 340 has more clearance.

What size filter are you running with that MP lid and drop base?  I am having the same problem with my small block now that I am running a carb spacer, but I really like the MP air cleaner's looks.

I'd love to be able to retain it and lower it somehow, but the MP air cleaner uses a funky 12.75" diam. air filter.

I believe it is 3" high and if you look close the MP lid actually doesn't fit around the filter but on top of the inside rubber ring. So my guess It is a 13" filter. If you need I will take it out and measure it.

Yes, that would be great!  All of the drop bases I find are for your typical 14" diameter filter, I'm assuming yours is the same.  If I could find a happy medium filter that fits that bottom and the smaller top, I'd be in heaven.
