Hello
My name is Rick. I purchased my 70 cuda' 340 in 1974. I am in year 8 of a ground up restoration. I am comming down to the end. I had a electrical problem before I started the restoration. I would be crusing down the road and the engine would cut out. After pulling over and cranking for a while, it would restart. As this happened often I was able to isolate the problem to the main harness out of the fuse block. By handling the wires, I could cause the engine to turn off. Also if it cut out while I was driving, I could grab the harness and meve them around and the engine would restart.
Do to the above, I decided to rewire everything. I bought all of the wiring from Year One. Most were pretty easy, except the main harness. I currently have the heater core, glove box, radio & steering column out of the car. So there is lots of room to work. It still seams impossible to get to all of the wires on the instrument cluster. so here are my questions.
1. What is the correct proceedure to install the harness? Should I remove the dash cap? Should I remove the gages and if so, is there enough room to pull through the front to rewire?
2. Is there a wiring diagram available so I can correctly reinstall? None of the wires on the harness are labled. Some are intitutive, but some are not.
What other advice can you give me on this? I would love to here from you.
Thanks
Rick
