Small Block Engine Numbers
« on: October 22, 2009 - 06:50:45 AM »
I have several small blocks and cannot find an engine number on any of them, 2 late '60's  318's & 1  '71  360. Looked in the usual places, did some come without, here in Australia all had numbers.
  Thanks
Dave

Nothing on the pan rail either?  Would there be such thing as a service replacement block?  I thought they just swapped motors.

No Numbers in those places I have already checked, guess I will have to make up my own, I will have to be creative so it won't match anything already recorded.

A mate of mine who fits 350 chev motors into Jag's tried to reg. the engine to that car only to find that the number was already in use. It appears that chev's stamp a batch number on their engines so there are many out there with that same number. A second number has to be stamped. In the above case not only was that number registered but the Jag had been stolen and never recovered and the owner of the stolen Jag tried to take the car even though it was the wrong year.   :villagers:  My mate now puts his own unique number on all of his conversions.   :2thumbs:
