I'm familiar with how the scam works. My gut feel is it is a scam.  The original inquiry came from a web site that has only given me spam, scams, and BS contacts in the past, so odds are it is all bunk.

What differentiates this from previous scams I've received is 1) The grammer is good. They actually have the ability to use the english language. 2) An exchange of intelligent automotives questions was asked for initially. 3)They did not immediately go into the overseas shipping routine.

However, as soon as the whole overseas shipping, fees from prepayment, and arranged shipping came around, the red flags went up.

I've pretty much resigned myself to the idea this sale will not be completed. On the slim chance it is real, I would think the buyer will be just as interested in having a solid transaction as I would, so they should not be opposed to escrow or holding accounts by a broker.  If they come up with more excuses then  I'll send them barking up the investigative tree and stop communication. I typically get responses back from them pretty quickly, so the day and a half delay seems to indicate to me they may have decided to walk away already.

If he doesn't want to go thru a broker, then dump him. The fact that he is wanting to send you extra for shipping is usually a REAL red flag. A bogus cashier's check, or whatever. Since he is in another country, you really would have no recourse.

I don`t see any problem here as long as the money is in the bank of the seller...

:aussie:   Buyers usually organise and pay for transportation/shipping as there is always an import tax of some sort which the buyer must work out directly with their own government. I have imported several cars into Australia from America, this setup smells bad.   :22yikes:

I'd say it is all over now. After 5 days of silence, I think they have moved on.

I told them that we would need to retain a broker to complete the transactions and forms necessary for overseas shipment and that they needed to be prepared to be able to provide information such as name, address, phone, bank name, account routing, account numbers and be prepared to perform wire transfers into an escrow account the broker would set up. I offered to set up the broker, but at that point they would need to ensure that the balance of the transaction would be completed in a manner to protect their interests as well as mine.

So, it ends in a deafening silence. No biggie, I still have my cars and they will have to move on to other efforts.
