I agree - to ALWAYS go see the car in person when paying > 6k. I bought a 71 barracuda online about 4 years ago.. before I got my shaker car. The guy was asking $8k online.. it looked like a really nice & "straight" 71 318 barracuda. I offered him 7200 after talking with him. He said NEW qtrs were put on and said it could be turned into a BIG $$ car.. yada, yada, yada.
My friend & I drove down to WV the next day to pay & tow it back home to NJ. As soon as I got there.. the car looked soooo much different in person! The "new Qtrs" installed turned out to be just the lowewer patch panels.. and a horrible job was done.. and they began rotting out already. The interior was trashed and a couple of holes in the cowl. The entire body looked like you could surf on it ..so I was unaware of how much was just bad body work or rust the bondo was hiding.
I was p!ssed to say the least & offered the guy 5k cash or I would pack up & trek home. He insisted 3 people were coming down the next day to look, but I told him.. they are going to find the same car I'm standing next to.. and will be just as disappointed as I was that afternoon. Anyways, we agreed on $5500. I've since had the fenders correctly punched for the gills and bought a glass shaker set -up. There was a coat of bondo over the entire car & as it turned out was not as rusty as I first guessed. i think the bondo actually kept the good metal from rusting. All in all, it was def worth $5500, becasue You'll not find them that cheap any longer. The grill is in real nice shape. and the stamped fenders really set the car off. So I agree w/ the above comments.. never negotiate over the phone. $15k is still alot of $$, so pay for the ticket & fly to check it out.
Bottom line is.. it's advertised on the one of the most known ebody sites.. so chances are he knows what they are worth.. and also what's wrong. Good luck. If the qtrs were put on properly and limited bondo and rust underneath.. I'd say the car is def worth that.
