I need to vent about recent ebay purchases
« on: November 21, 2009 - 02:34:09 PM »
hello all  I am a longtime member of this forum . I am not very computer literate and seldomly post anything but log on and read every night .
My job unfortunatly for me takes most of my time and energy not leave much left for my cars ( all projects) or my life.
So to satisfy my carving and love of my cudas I continually purchase parts for them in the hopes that some day  finding the time to work on them !
So here begins the venting ! I have loved cudas longer than I can remember . Everyone owns their own car and does it their own way I have nothing but respect for that . But China / Taiwan didnt build my beloved cars the first time and I wish to keep their part in the rebuilt to a minimum ! Yes I am one of those crazy original / nos guys.
So last week on ebay I purchased an nos piece of sheetmetal or so advertised for my cuda . I was very happy with this purchase until recieving it . the seller has great feedback and alot of it  the part is a very rare piece seldomly seen nos ( In my 26 years or so in the hobby it is the 4 one I have ever seen for sale ) . When the piece shows up I open it to find a surface rusted piece (as advertised ) but with no dealer tag , part number ect so I take it to compare it to the one nos one I already have holes in different locations ,bends and cuts slightly different , and missing holes my other nos piece has ? what do you do  ? I have seen differences in nos parts before maybe it is nos through a different vendor of the day maybe not . I dont have an aftermarket one to compare it to .
So i decide not to leave feedback and move on only buying parts with dealer stickers attached or still in the factory box .
I purchase a nos a/c valve for one of my cars of ebay . new nos still in the mopar box . It shows up I open it and low and behold the box has the label and shipping tag with is dated 2004 but the part inside is clearly after market and dated 2008 !!!
Come on people I earn my money honestly and get so discusted with all the people trying to make a dishonest buck off of our hobby . there is plenty of money in this hobby to be made honestly off people wanting to build there cars !This crap happens way to often and just makes me want to give up on the hobby !
I am waiting on an nos tail light panel right now it still was the part number stamped on it and the dealership shipping sticker I am almost afraid to see it at this point !!!
oh well thank for letting me vent and the dishonest in our beloved hobby continues to go on !

yes mate id have to agree , ebay has brought out the worst in a lot of people trying to make a quick profit , prob moreso in the automotive industrythan anything else , rusty/damaged  cars being covered up ,parts that arent nos or sold as new that are used,or stuff not turning up at all,its prob worse for us guys overseas that love our us muscle cars just as much , counter in the dollar conversion , freight , taxs and duties then gst, to find out when and if it arrives you have been dudded.
T/A AND R/T............... IM GREEDY.

I agree with Wade, like repops are now NOS  yeah right.  Like those repop radiators for 1100 plus bucks, brand new glass with old date codes, fuel filters and such. If it is not original nos, then why try to fool everyone. Date coded new mufflers, hoses, spark plug wires..... It just isn't right if you ask me. Searching for original oem parts is really part of our quest to build our cars.

I guess I am happy without over priced "nos" stuff.

Yikes, that really sucks man and hopefully the tailpanel turns out to be the gem your hoping for.
I am always leery when I buy from e-bay, recently I bought a used valence described as a 7 of 10 and turned out to more like a 4, with rust holes and bondo. Not too bad, still structurally sound and completely repairable but misrepresented. On the other hand, the tips I got from another seller were better than expected. I am waiting for the luggage rack hardware kit to show up and hopefully since it's a reproduction, I hope I'm not dissapointed :dunno:
