How much HP is a 73 340 block good for?
« on: November 09, 2009 - 02:19:23 PM »
I was just reading another post and someone said stock blocks aren't good for more then 500 hp. Is this true? Do I need to look for a different block if I plan on building a 600 hp motor with a 150 shot of Nitrous? If this is true then I need to sell the block I got and worry about getting a better block. Thanks yall.

If you are honestly willing and able to make that kind of power, I would use a new block. 600 is about the reliable limit, and you need to put some cash into it to get it to there. NOS is not an easy power gain. So for reliability I would go R3. It's not much more cash than fully prepping a factory block and you get a bunch of strength with it.

Once we had Ronald Reagan, Bob Hope & Johnny Cash. Now we have Obama, No Hope and No Cash!

OK. Thanks for the info. I'm gonna have to rethink my engine choice now. If I'm gonna have to buy a whole new block, I might just spend the extra money and get one of those aluminum 572 Hemis...

Right now I don't have the cash to build what I want, but I am working on a job that makes 3 times as much as I am right now, and when I get that job I will be able to build this thing how I want.
