rebuilding a 440
« on: November 03, 2009 - 12:55:23 PM »
ok so i bought a 440 block while mine is being redone, i want to be able to drive it, the original 440 will have an aggressive build.

the block is a 75, and i want to just bolt my heads and the rest to it and go, except there is some gritty sediment around the pistons and where the heads bolt. also, the pistons have buildup on them. i dont want to take the block apart if i dont have to, it supposedly ran fine, the lifters look brand new

any suggestions? This is my first attempt at working on a V8. What is the best way to flush that grit out, and should i tear the block down completely? i dont want to have to send it out to get honed, etc

thanks

I would not tear ti down just wash the cylinders out with brake clean , while on its side if possible then re-oil the clyinder walls , rotate the engine while doing this
