70 Challenger - Right Rear Quarter Question
« on: November 09, 2009 - 07:55:44 PM »
Unfortunately, I don't have any nearby fellow E-Body owners to consult with, or more importantly inspect some original body.

Here's what I've got, I purchased a Goodmark replacement right rear quarter and got it put on and made the mistake of ditching the old quarter.  Noticed after priming out that the line down the quarter is broken slightly by the gas nozzle/hole.  I can't tell if the fabrication of the quarter deformed the horizontal line of the quarter or its suppose to be that way?  It looks fine the way it is, but want it to be as close to original as possible.  Thoughts?  I thought about posting pictures, but not sure they'll show enough,

I have seen a picture where there was a pooch just below the filler opening...Hammer & dolly is the cure..  Some have even cut out their old filler area & welded into the new panel to correct.

Here is a picture of the right rear quarter panel that we installed.  Does this look the same as yours?

THe Goodmark quarters do have a bad spot by the filler opening.  Also, the depth of the opening isn't right either.  Make sure to check the fitment of your gas cap before you go any farther.   I had Goodmarks put on my 73 and had issues in the same spot.  The bodyline twards the rear of the panel was distorted as well.

I made sure that the bodyshop had all the parts that were going to be bolted to the quarters so they could make sure they fit before the car was painted.  They fitted the filler kneck/gas cap, side marker lights, wheelwell trim and tail panel trim once the new quarters were on the car.
