road lamp / fog light restoration
« on: December 06, 2009 - 01:05:51 PM »
On my 72 Cuda I'm cleaning up and restoring the lower grille that has the fog lights.  First off, I remember in the early to mid-90's there was an article in one of the Mopar mags about restoring Cuda road lamps, including cleaning up the lenses, repainting, etc.  Does anyone have a link to that article?  I can't find it in my stack of magazines.

My clear plastic lenses are really pitted and scratched so I've lightly sanded them with 1500 grit and then used rubbing compound and plastic polish to bring them back to life.  They are not perfect but a heck of a lot better.  Now I'm trying to clean up the chrome plastic bezels.  Again using rubbing compound has gotten a lot of the grit and grime off the chrome, however there are some nicks and gouges in the plastic.   I don't really think it's worth it to send them out to have the plastic re-chromed.  Has anyone had any luck re-touching up the chrome?  A chrome paint or something similar?  If not I'll just live with them as is.

Thanks,
Travis

Pics?   They re-pro those don't they?  I tried some rattle can spray paint. The chrome doesn't last long. But does look better.Could clear it to help.  I'm customizing the lower front valence insert.Pushing the lights out to the corners.Making them smaller(half the size)Going to look factory...Almost. Or maybe the '70 insert with no lights and some custom l.e.d's somewhere. :dunno:
