MSD Wiring help
« on: December 05, 2009 - 02:12:01 PM »
Hi all,
I'm finally getting my electrical problems figured out, but am still confused on the correct MSD wiring... It runs fine, but I've read that the brown wire should be connected and the ballast resister bypassed (removed ?).

Here's a drawing of what I have now

Is this correct ? How do I attach the brown wire ant bypass the ballast resistor ?

Thanks !

Just join the brown wire to where you have the red and blue attached together. I guess from the way the drawing looks your msd box is mounted in the engine compartment but wired in the passenger compartment? After the blue and brown wires are connected to the msd red, you can remove the ballast resistor.
My msd is mounted in the engine compartment on the firewall. It was easiest for me to disconnect the blue and brown wires from the ballast resistor connectors and tie all three wires together there. Depending on where your electrical connections are, use drawing 1 or 2.  :2thumbs:

Thanks ! Yes, the msd box is mounted in the engine compartment but wired in the passenger compartment. That's way I always thought it wired wrong... just didn't seem right.

Thanks again for all the help !

It's not wrong to be in the passenger compartment, just not the same as mine. I added another diagram, take a look.
