Is this conversion pretty easy to do?Is there any problems doing this conversion? Will this work with a aftermarket carb/manifold setup? :clueless:

Are you talking about putting the shaker into the scooped hood, or just swapping the scooped hood for a flat food/shaker setup?

assuming you are talking about the older body style [70-74] it is a simple but costly swap & most aftermarket intakes are too tall to use under the shaker bubble , the other thing to note is the shaker is actually restrictive for max airflow / power as the openings are too small

Chryco that was a very interesting posting about a shaker having air flow problems compared to the rallyee hood.  The impression I've always had is that the shaker hood and performance engine (440/426) were the ultimate peices to finish off your car.  Getting the car to breath properly being the ultimate goal for most owners of those engines in a muscle car I really appreciate that little gem of info you shared.  It the major reason I won't be putting a shaker on my car.  Thanks.

well the shaker hood is better from the point of view of bringing cold air into the engine from above the hood , the ralley hood will bring in some cold air with the plates removed but the air cleaner is not sealed to the hood .  We did some testing with a super stock Hemi Cuda years ago & tuned the engine on the dyno & we make a good power increase tuning it & we also tested spark plugs looking for extra power & proved that the more expensive the spark plug the more power was lost & we also found that as soon as we put the shaker scoop back on the engine all the power gains that were realised with tuning had to be reset back to where we had them due to the resticted air flow through the shaker . In the engine book they list a large area for the minimum opening for a hood scoop & the big 6 Pack scoops on the 69 Runners were approx correct to feed the big Mopar engines & the Shaker scoops are definatly too small to fed a dual quad Hemi or a 6 Pack properly

Shaker conversion is $$$.

Get the repop hood.  THey're decent.

WHat intake you running?  I don't think you can get anything higher than a PErformer RPM (big block) or an air-gap (small block).

And even w/those, you'll need to fab some kind of base plate that drops the scoop down some.
