New Hemmings Classic Car features /6 Challenger 'vert
« on: November 26, 2009 - 12:32:59 PM »
My January issue of Hemmings Classic Car showed up in the mailbox yesterday and once again its a winner.  One of the feature articles is titled "Slant-Six Sweetheart" and covers the restoration of an FE5 '70 Challenger convertible.
I've seen pictures of this car before from when it was displayed at Carlisle, but didn't realize how extensive the restoration on this car was.  The article has a thorough description and extensive photographs of the restoration process.
Great job by the owners saving this one, and restoring it back to original as an almost never seen /6 Challenger convertible, rather than making it just another "one of hundreds" hemi or 6 pack clone!  :2thumbs:

I'm just happy when I find I'm not the only guy in the world with a Challenger that has its original flat hood!  :woo:  :ylsuper:

We had a 318, 3-speed, bucket seat, 70 chal convert for many years. We kept changing our minds about what we wanted to build. I ended up going with a 426 hemi/automatic setup and sold it for big bucks when the market was good. Looking back now, I kind of wish that I had left the flat hood, 318 and 3-speed on the floor. I would probably still have the car and would be having a blast driving it.
Funny how things change over time. What was not cool back then is considered ultra cool now.

Hemmings is the best...always enjoy their articles

...friend of mine had a 6 Challenger cv about 25 years ago...B5/blue int/wh top...very very nice car, looked new...asked $4K for it and NO ONE would even talk to him...finally sold it for about $3K to a guy for his wife...she wrecked it a few days later...it was fixed and wrecked again (probably totaled) by the next owner...last I knew, still sits in a shed out in the country, probably rotted into the ground by now

I remember back in the late 90's, a local parts and car broker, Ken Burbach, showed up at a show with a '70 /6 Challenger convertible he was selling.  He said it was an original owner car, and had belonged to a little old lady.  The car had been repainted burgundy red but had been F8 green.  IIRC it had a white interior. The car was solid as a rock, looked like it just needed a repaint and a good cleaning up to be a good driver.  He was asking 15K.
I already had my convertible and no room for another, but I have always wondered what became of that car. Most likely was cloned and now would be unrecognizable to what it looked like originally.
