Oil Filter Relocation Kit
« on: December 15, 2009 - 03:15:45 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm thinking of adding an oil filter relocation kit to my 71 Challenger 340.  Do you guys have any opinions one way or the other?

What recomendations do you suggest?

Thanks
Dave

I had a relocation kit on my 440 years ago. It was an adapter that had a plate that screwed on instead of the filter that I screwed 2 #10 AN fittings into. I then used Braided hose and ends to go to a dual filter adapter that I had mounted where the battery would normally go.   It made it easy to change the filters without getting any oil spilled. If you can mount your 340 filter straight up and down, it'll save you the mess too. If you want it, do it.

Australian Mopars with small blocks all come as stock with a relocated oil filter because of the right hand drive configuration.

It mounts upside down on the top of the engine either at the rear next to the distributor or at the front over the water pump housing. They use an adaptor plate and hard lines.

Hmm, good to know. Any pictures, did they use a high volume oil pump or just a stock one. (been told a high volume pump is needed for reloacted filters.

Hard oil lines, like that but how does it deal with felxing from the motor..is it mounted on the motor?

I have one for my car,Not installed yet. Going to move some things around in there first. But have had good luck with them in the past on A engines. Never heard about the HV oil pump needed. The kits come single or double filter and mount around the engine bay.Come with rubber lines too. Never seen hard lines before. Going with AN style fittings/hose.

Mounted to the engine in the locations I described. Usually beside the distributor. Stock oil pump.

Obviously if you are locating it on the inner fender or bulkhead you will need flexable high pressure hose.

A point worth mentioning is that a remote filter can extend the amount of time it takes to bring up the oil pressure. I wouldn't do it unless you really needed to.
