Kelly Blue Book on 73 challenger
« on: November 23, 2009 - 04:12:17 PM »
I would like to know if any of you have an 09-10 Kelly Blue book that covers the challenger? I would like to get an idea of what kelly est. the challengers at in good condition. This is so I know what my insurance might cover should something go very VERY wrong. As they use blue book to price. I tried the site but they only go back to 1989

I have a
1974 Challenger
318 - Auto trans
Let me know if you need any more info. THANKS!!

You really should look into an insurance company with "Agreed Value".  They basically let you choose the insured value, as long as it is not something ridiculous.  With as many mods and upgrades as there are on our classic cars, if you go with an insurance company that uses the blue book value, you're most likely going to get screwed.  Check out Grundy or Haggerty for starters, and there are plenty more.  Do a site search, it's been brought up several times before.

Also to play it on the safe side you could hire an appraiser to give you a value...
And yes don't use a "blue book" value, you will be sorry.

After submitting pictures of my car with detailed shots of the outside, inside and motor we have an agreed value that it is insured for.

My only worry is that I have 2 cars. I don't know if I can afford to have two policies with two different companies.

You really should look into classic car insurance. Maybe $300-$400 a year for 20K-25K agreed value of your car.  I'm just giving guestimates, but you should go that way unless you plan to use your car as an everyday driver.

When I went to license my car for the first time in 20 yrs (72 challenger) they went back only 5 yrs on the taxes, started out at $4000 the first year and then the last year which was 2009 it was taxed on a $9000 value

If it's a daily driver then you will not be able to get classic car isurance on it, and you will probably be stuck with the blue book value, whatever it is.  If it was me I would get a couple grand beater for the DD and get your Chally on with Grundy, etc.  I'm paying $200/year for comp/collision with $100 deductible and agreed value of $36,000.
