Connect the small red wire to battery positive and give it a try. Don't leave it connected though after the test. Will it start?

No, the solenoid wire should not affect the ignition system at all.  You are talking about the small wire on the starter, right? 

Try this to rule out the MSD box.

Jumper the heavy red wire and small orange together and run directly to battery positive.  Run the black wire directly to battery negative. 

Leave the MSD wires to the coil hooked up, and disconnect the coil to cap wire and hook up a spark plug to it to make the spark easier to see.  Make sure the plug is grounded properly!  If it isn't you can damage the coil.

Now take the white wire on the MSD and touch it to battery negative.  Each time you do this it should spark.  Just tap the wire, avoid holding it grounded. 

Make sure you run those wires directly to battery to avoid bad connections using iffy grounds on the chassis!

If it works now you know you have a wiring concern to the box.

He means a red wire to the positive side of coil, from battery.....That would give the coil power, for it to do it's job. Once the jumper is done, start cranking.

That still won't work.  The MSD box supplies and pulses both power and ground to the coil.  If he were running a conventional ignition that would be a good way to bypass everything and see if it sparks.

I mean the small red MSD wire. The wire that needs 12vdc all the time when starting or running. My idea is to temporarily bypass any problems he might have with the 12volts not being on this wire. Its the enable wire for the MSD that goes to switched 12vdc that turns the box on and off.

We're actually saying the same thing here, but there is a colour difference. On mine the orange wire is a coil wire and the red is enable. On quagmire's, the orange must be the enable. Both posts are just trying to eliminate any 'switched 12v' problems.

 I have never felt a need for a MSD box. IMO get rid of it and go factory Electronic igintion. Chrysler's system is/was already one of the best any easy to work on.
