Spring relocators
« on: September 02, 2004 - 01:27:44 AM »
Hey guys, I have asked a similar question in another thread but thought I would ask it here specifically as well.  I want to run spring relocators on my 70 cuda and already have superstock springs (not sure which ones though, were on the car when I bought it).  Chryco already filled me in on the fact that you can just buy the relocators from Mopar but I was wondering which setup I should go with.  The two different part numbers are P4120078 for offset rear spring front hangers but it says I would also need offset shakles #p4120076 and would need to move the spring seat (what does this mean)? Would I also then need A body superstock springs instead of my ebody ones ( I read this in another thread)?
The other option is part # p4120665ab, the spring relocation kit which it says moves the spring in 3' on each side, mounts longitudinally, requires welding and includes the shackles, front hangers, rear shackle mounts and sring mounting seats.  Seems like a pretty complete kit but don't know if I want to cut and weld.

My question is is one setup better than another, or who has used which kit and how did they like it?  Any other items I will need with either kit (besides wider wheels)?  Any other things to consider before I buy ( I am leaning towards the bolt in kit)?  What do you guys think?  Thanks, Tyler

the bolt in kit moves the springs over less , & requires the shorter spring which I have used a works fine , the seat on the diff housing Must be moved though as relocating the spring requires the seat to be cut off the diff housing & moved over to stay in line with the spring , the seat then has to be rewelded to the diff housing ,
The second kit is much harder to installl but maximizes room in the wheel well , you need to notch the frame rail  & weld the front hangar into the frame rail , again the seat on the diff has to be rewelded on the diff as well to stay in line with the relocated spring

Thanks Chruco, that clears it up for me.  So that shorter spring you reffered to is an A-body Superstock spring?  Can they be purchased straight from Mopar amd do you have part # on the just to be sure I'm ordering the correct ones?  Thanks again for all your help,  Tyler

Here is Mancini's site for springs, they have everything else too ;)

Unless you plan on installing minitubs the bolt in spring hangers are the way to go
If you get the mid sixties B-body rearend the spring seats are in the right place so you don't have
to cut or weld anything

This way you can store your original set up and change it back whenever you want
