how many workhours?
« on: December 14, 2009 - 02:28:38 AM »
Hi, my challenger is disassembled and I got first quotes on body work, sandblasting and disassembly and verification of car and I'm a bit shocked  :eek7:
Please tell me how many workhours takes:
- complete disassembly of car, engine+tranny removed as a unit, same thing with rear end
- replacement of trunk floor with floor extensions
- replacement of front floor pan (driver's, short pan)
- reskinning of a quarter

I mean bodywork + filler if necessary. Thanks for help.

A lot of variables there-how rusty the car is will make a diifernce as to how easy it comes apart etc.Wild guess without seeing the car 40-60 hrs, maybe more.Breaking it down figure 10-15 for a quarter,8-12 for the trunk and extensions,4-6 for the front pan and at least a day or so to take apart and add for any other rust repair on adjacant areas, sandblasting, priming.

:iagree: But wouldn't be suprised if another 20 hours plus for disassembly. All depends on how stripped down it already is.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

I was shocked too when I started getting price quotes. I also checked some of their work and methods and got further disappointed. Thats when I decided to try and tackle it on my own. I was able to get a garage, and the tools for about half the price that I was being quoted.

However, the timeframe has expanded way more then a body shop would have done.

i ask cause the shop quotes are insane as to polish economy conditions. I heard 1 workhour is US is aaprox 30-50 usd. And I was quoted:
$1500 - for car disassembly and verification of parts condition (ie - buy this, buy that, that is crap) and body (this is rust, that is rust, buy this sheet metal and that). engine, tranny, rear end not touched at all.

$1000 for sandblasting the unibody

$3700 for 2 short front floor pans replacement, trunk floor+extensions, grinding some old welds, patching the upper cowl and replacing skin on quarter.

The car isn't in bad shape:

and was qualified to 2010 c-c.com callendar  :cooldancing:

Takin into consideration that 1 workhour in polish economy is approx $10, maybe $15 for a specialist (bodyman) led me to a conclussion somebdy wants to rip me off.

A friend of mine had his 72 cuda completely done for $3500, and it was real bad - all floors, quarters, cowl, fenders needed patching or replacement.

Ya,look elsewhere,at $15/hour that`s a lot of hours to be charging that kind of money.
