D-O-D-G-E Hood Letters
« on: December 25, 2009 - 10:18:06 AM »
How does everyone hold their letters to their hoods?

Most of my used ones have signs of nuts, but I have an NOS one with the little pink, plastic sleeves.   :dunno:

My buddies 70 Challenger has the little pink plastic sleeves holding his on. I think that's what Jack from Jack's Auto is going to send me when he finally gets the '' D O D G  E ''  letters back in stock. I've been waiting for 6 weeks............

I tried to use those little pink plastic suckers to hold my '' 340  FOUR BARREL ''  emblems on the hood scoop. I ruined all six of the ones I had. I think the key with those is sliding them on the posts at just the right position. I had some that I did not slide up far enough, so the emblem was not tight to the hood. Getting the emblem off after that is touchy at best. At that point the sleeves are usually wasted.
I'm waiting for more to arrive so I can give it another shot........

I used the pink sleeves on my rear DODGE letters. You're right. They're a little tricky and you need to get them almost all the way down the post before installing the emblem. I used long-nosed pliers and a twisting motion. Just a big thumb pressing in the letters. They go in with a serious SNAP!

Probably going with the nuts on the hood letters, but I'm waiting on a better "D" and "O" that I bought used.

Of the FIVE sets I have, I could still only come up with a partial usable set. These were from cars parted out between 84 and 9?. I hate road salt! Who knew these tiny emblems would one day cost $30 EACH?  :banghead:

If I'd known it would be so much trouble and $$, I'd have filled the holes in the hood before paint!

Jack's Auto Parts out of New Jersey has the whole set for $60, the only problem is availability. I'm in no hurry, I think he'll be back in stock just after first of the year......

Are those fronts or rears? I see rears (72-74) for that price pretty frequently, but $150 seems to be the going rare for fronts.  :clueless:

My front hood ones are held on with speed nuts.  If I remember correctly........on one side of my hood emblems..........what you guys are calling sleeves are installed in the hole and then the emblem is pushed into the sleeve causing a compression fit........I may be completely wrong....have been before........... :dunno: :dunno: :clueless:

Give Jack a call (800-870-6402), tell him the crazy guy from Indiana told you to call, this guy's a hoot, but a good guy...
He's got the east coast attitude working big time, I'm allowed to say that since I was born in Brooklyn and also lived in New Jersey till I was 12. I've been in Indiana for about 40 years, I'm almost cured ~ ~ ~LOL ! ! ! ! !
When I asked for DODGE for the front of a 70 Challenger hood, he said they were $59.............
