Header Bolt question
« on: December 31, 2009 - 07:14:47 AM »
I've got a 340, do all the header bolts go into the water jacket? I know the rear ones go into the water jacket, I'm not sure about the others.
Is there a sealer or something I should put on those bolts to help coolant from seeping through the threads?

Only the front and rear ones go into water, they need sealer.  If possible I use the factory studs in those.

I used a thread sealer made by Permatex. Your local auto parts store should have something.

I definatly try to leave the end studs in place on small blocks when using headers
 Permatex Teflon thread sealer works

My personal preference is teflon tape on the studs. I use stainless nuts and lockwashers on the business end.
