Mechanical Fuel Pump
« on: December 28, 2009 - 01:34:32 PM »
I have a Proform 950 I am getting ready to put on my engine.  I am in need of a fuel pump.  I want to stay with a mechanical fuel pump and have heard mixed reviews.  Is there a mechanical fuel pump that I can use that any of you have experience with?  Thanks.

I have a Carter Hi-volume pump that works fine. Be aware they make pumps for the street and the strip, so I don't know how you intend to use the car. The only real difference is the fuel pressure. The street pump will be lower. Having said that, even with the street pump, I had to put on a fuel pressure regulator because it was putting out more pressure than advertised. I have it set for 6 PSI, but from the factory the pump was in the 8+ range.

What is the Carter HV part number?  If you can remember off of the top of your head?  Thanks.

Thanks for the input so far.  Is this an HP Carter like you all talk about?  Going on a 500+ engine shifting at 5500 requiring only 850 cfm of carb, if it helps.  Thanks!
CARTER - 383, 440, 5.5 tp 6.6 psi

Or do I need one that can get closer to 7.5-8.5psi? Like this one?

Mine is priced like the first one. It has a 3/8ths inlet tube, not 5/16ths.
