wow.
I cant believe how difficult this decision is. Its as bad as choosing a new color for the car!
I want 17s with the largest widest tires I can fit without mods, and since many cars are different, not only from the factory but after all these years with different axles, etc. what fits one car might not fit another, even when people thinks their cars are "stock". The wheel offset/backspace will be critical.

I very much believe that the 255/60-17 rear tires are as large as I could put on with my stock rearend. I know for a fact that I could not get up to a 275, because they would rub the leaf springs. I do have about an inch clearance to the fender, so I could probably get 275s on if I used a spacer, or went with a half inch less BS.

I know my car fits a 275 with a little room to spare, but not much, you just need the right backspace. I've read some guys have squeezed up to 295s on 10" wheels in supposedly stock setups, unless I misread their posts

Just to clarify, what I said above is for my car, and we all know the clearances will vary from car to car, so if you think it might be tight, be sure to take lots of measurements or it could be a costly mistake.

If a 295 will fit most cars, then a 265 or 275, with a 9.5" wheel should fit, but obviously the backspace is critical. I think about 1/2" from the leaf spring is as close as I want to come. That leaves a little wiggle room when the car is under stress.
Newstalgia is a good looking supplier, but I'm a little disappointed in their tires. Seems they dont carry all the sizes, and not a huge selection. At least not on the website anyways. No selection of a 275/50 tire anywhere!? Maybe I'll just call them.

and then go to my local Discount Tire and they'll match the out the door price.

Beyond the actual wheel fitment is also the tire fitment. So it is possible to optimize the wheel and then run in to tire interference. While shopping for tires, be sure you check section width measurements and the checking wheel size. If you decide to use a wheel that is wider or narrower than the checking size, you will also influence the section width of the tire. So there are several variables to keep in mind while your shopping.

Also, while checking wheel well space, check both sides and the rear spring segment behind the axle line. Because E body springs are splayed with the rear wider, you will find that it requires a smaller tire to fit there than in front of the axle line.

Thanks for posting that - never heard of them before.
