Bridgestone Portenza tires- anyone tried them?
« on: January 01, 2010 - 06:57:41 PM »
Portenzas come stock on the Nissan GT-R. They were also used on a new Challenger in a Mustang/Camaro/Challenger match-up, and the authors of the article (Motor Trend) attributed much of the Challengers success on the road course to these tires. Anyone using them?

I have used tham years ago , They were good tires but they were bought up by Firestone so I no idea if they are still good & Firestone has a horrible reputaion for tire quality

It is the other way around, Bridgestone bought Firestone in the late '80s.  Bridgestone tires are still good.  The few modern Firestone performance tires that I have used have also been good.

I would not hesitate to use a Bridgestone performance tire.  Tirerack often has users' reviews on the versions they sell which are often enlightning when compared to mag reviews, etc.  :)

I mentioned this in another post somewhere, but Car & driver recently did a big 17" tire test. Requirements were a price tag under $150, 225/45 size, wet ad dry skidpad, wet and dry braking, wet and dry autocross

Winner was the Dunlop Star Sec
2nd was Hankook Ventus V12
3rd Kumho Ecsta XS
4th was Bridgestone Potenza RE760
