Did you read the posts?  I put more weight into peoples' comments than jumping in and clicking a button.  Six posts, including myself, say to fix them.  There are 4 votes to 3 to buy new ones.  :dunno:

Hey Canadian Cuda,  I can send your money back. I hadnt used it yet. No harm done either. If you tell me you could use this money for something esle, I am ok with that. It seems you need it more than a mirror right now for your welding machine and body work.

I wouldn't think nothing bad about this.  I sell stuff to help out.  If giving you a refund helps out, then it's ok with me.

well i did some sand blasting on the bad parts tonight and they were real bad. i'm up to at least 14 patches they'll need. i'm leaning towards the glass ones just for ease, and get repops when i have cash. i'm able to see way to much daylight through them. :bricks1:

as others said, fix what you have, maybe take them off and take them to a blasting place, most powdercoater will do them cheap and quick, find a shop to cut out the rusted out thin metal and weld new metal patches ,hammer & dolly and imperfections and finish the bodywork yourself,it's not as hard as you might think,  :2cents:

There is a set of decent 70 fenders on craigslist for $250 (sent you the link)....I know shipping will probably kill ya from the location they are to where you are. SO maybe not an option.

I don't know. 14 patches?  If they are THAT bad, my opinion is that you will spend a lot of time trying to turn turds into cream puffs.  Yeah, it can be done...and it would be a learning experience....but you have to consider if you have that time and patience too.

At what point is saving some scratch by doing it yourself going to be outweighed by the sheer time and patience involved ? This varies for everyone.  I have seen guysturn swiss cheeses cars into masterpieces....but they have the tools, materials and PATIENCE.  LOL

I'd be either watching for used ones and working on the rest of the car in the meantime or just finding the cash and buying the repops. Or, as I said before , use the fiber glass ones for now...unless doing a quick and dirty bondo job on the steel ones would result in an easier/better aesthetic for now.

If the original metal fenders are too far gone just use the fiberglass ones for now.Even though they might look a little rough fiberglass is easy and very forgiving to work with,if you need any fiberglass help/pointers just ask.

I'm going to try some work on my fiberglass ones and have a couple questions. i want to add the sidemarkers, so could i just build up the inside cut a hole then recess the edge or will it need more strength. and for moving the bodyline down should i use fiberglass or bondo.
thanks for all the help guys, the steel ones just seem like more trouble then they're worth.

My fenders are 'glass and been happy with them for 29 years - no issues. It just took a lot of massaging to get them fitting well and block sanding to eliminating the 'wave'. The high body line could be affected by where the bottom of the fender attaches in front of the rocker. On my fenders it was extremely THICK - about 3/4" Along with short strand fiberglass filler, cut it down to about 3/8. The holes for the bolts were in the wrong spot too. Filling and redrilling helped out a little more.  :2cents:  Spend some time on them and they will look good, as someone else mentioned, your time is 'free' :grinyes:
29 years ago my decision was easier. No steel repops  :-[, no craigslist, no ebay, fiberglass was available.

Ya,just build up the inside with layers of glass and then cutout and recess-plenty strong enough. If you need any more than 1/4" thick use fiberglass then finish with mud, otherwise mud only.
