Help! A-833od transmission

Sorry guys,
I'm out looking for a 75 & later A-833od transmission. I read the link about them but it only discusses the older ones that came with slant sixes. maybe I'm just confused. I called around to junk yards in my area and found a couple of them? How do i know if they are in fact the correct transmisssion? Are there casting numbers that would identify them. I found one around the corner from my house but it has no linkages on it. The casting numbers that I found on the drivers side ledge near the shifter plate is C-13546 B 11A2785. On the front shaft plate I found the number C13167. The thing that confused me is that the tail shaft had  both shifter pads but the ones that the e body should use were sollid (NO Threads). Supposedly this transmission came out of a 1986 Dodge D150. Can anyone help please?

there are a few identifing features
 most have an Alum case but the early ones did use cast
all had the double shift mount & 95% of the ones I have seen didn'1 have the rear shifter pad mount drilled
the front brg retainer will measure 5.2" diameter , these can be milled down to the more common 4.80 diameter
the front shift lever will point down fron the retaining nut not up , all ODs were pointed down to reverse the shift inside the tranny , all non OD were pointed up
 the last way to check is to shift it into 3rd & turn the input shaft , the output shaft will be turning significantly faster

So I would have to get the rear shifter pad drilled correct?

The pad is there and the holes are semi-drilled (at least they were on mine). All you have to do is finish drilling them and tap them.

generally I have had to drill & tap the 3 holes

the A/F OD 833 has the A-body tailshaft.  The trucks used the B/E tailshaft with the dual shift mounts.

  All the above info correct, if the box was behind a 6 it is still the same as the V8 but you will have to get a V8 bell housing. The ratio's may be slightly different between a 6 & V8.    :2cents:   :cheers:

Thanks everyone. I bought the tranny today from a local wrecker. It came out of a 1986 Dodge Ram D150 5.2L. Now I have to find all of the other parts (Linkage, Bell Housing, Shift Mechanism, etc) . I paid $150.00 for it and it looks pretty good. I guess i might want to open it up to see how the gears look. Thaks for all your help & I'm sure that I will have more questions.

it will fit fine , that is where I find most of the ones I have sold is in 80s trucks

Should have asked them about the shifter, flywheel, clutch,a nd bellhousing. It is all there somwhere.

You would have to buy the linkage arms from Brewers, but the shifter is the same as the 70 style, click in.
