Has anyone sprayed epoxy over POR15?
« on: April 02, 2010 - 09:12:26 PM »
I am just about to spray my door jams with epoxy.  I sprayed POR15 under my wheel wells.  At some point the POR15 area is going to butt up to the epoxy primed area.  What do I do there?  I am thinking about self etching primer the metel adjacent and POR15, then overlap the epoxy onto the POR15.  Do you guys think that will work?  Or will the epoxy have problems with the self etching primer?  The POR15 has cured about 10 days.

Por15 has there own self etch they say you can use over por & then prime, I've had trouble gettin stuff to stick even when using their tie coat primer.
Mines a few years old now & undercarrige is chipping down to the por 15.
So I'd probably sand the por15 to get a bite & then etch just to be safe, that stuff's like glass hard to get anything to stay, don't ask me how I know! Rich.

Yeah I know about it being hard and sticking to everything!! I have had some on my fingernail for week now.  People are starting to talk..... :dupe:

Thanks for the experience.  I'm glad it is holding up.  Did you put undercoating ontop of your POR15 without any primer?  That's what I am thinking about doing.  Just putting it directly on, in the wheel wells.

No, no undercoat I painted everything, I guess your best chance is to rough it up a little like the instructions say,if anything is gonna stick undercoat has a good chance ? Rich.

I've heard before from others here how tough POR is to get scuffed allowing a primer overcoat after. So I went with Rust Bullet. I don't know which one is harder.

It seemed pretty easy to break the outer surface with RB to prepare for epoxy primer. I did my rear window channels with it and lower inside panels.
