Door measurement needed
« on: January 17, 2010 - 01:26:41 PM »
Can I get some measureements from yor cars between the top of the door and the A pillar?  I am starting to fit the doors back on and the passenger side seems to be off.

3/16 maybe . part of this will depend on the hood alignment gap to the fenders. If you want we can set something up to go over to my dads next to Ricks house, I have my 73 challenger their with dads 71.

Thanks Dave, I will let you know if I need to. The door was hit before I parked it.  I replaced the quarter and pulled the door out, but if I align the back to the quarter, it seems tight at the A pillar, and is sticking out in the front from the rocker.  I guess I will put the fender on to get a better idea first.

Both my doors are 1/8 inch for the gap your showing.  I had the hood and fenders on to finish door alignment.  Tweeked the fender fit to hood, and door location on hinges and hinges on car to get closer.  For example the bottom of one front fender where it meets the rocker panel had flange reaching back too far which held the fender forward and made the door gap to fender grow wider at bottom of door.  Recurled the flange to shorten it up and now gap is even ( had to repaint this part of fender). Had to give and take a little as the sheet metal is not perfect, for example door is flush with front fender in places, and slightly in or out at other places.
If your door is out from rocker at front, sounds like door needs to be moved inboard on lower door hinge.  Some forum feedback says to align door with rocker and rear quarter panels for even gaps, then match to front end sheet metal.  I followed this approach.  I'm no expert but all my gaps came out real well.

Thanks, that is about what I have, but I thought it was a little close.

I would have liked more than 1/8 inch also, but the gap between RH fender and hood was not consistent, and was already 'big' at front and back so I left the 1/8 inch at the doors.
