The job is done!!!
« on: September 13, 2004 - 10:15:40 PM »
Both leaf springs are in, the air shocks are out and the new gas shocks are in.  That job sucked but it was well worth it.  We took the car for a ride and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!!!  Getting rid of those air shocks changed everything.  The ride height is pretty much the same as what it was before when it had the air shocks.  I didn't get pics of the car yet but I did take pics of the job.  My digital camera batteries died and are on the charger now so I can't get the pics up onto the computer tonight.  I will do it tomorrow when I get home from work after I take pics of the car itself.  I will also be posting some pis of what I did to my door panels.  I bet the suspense is killing everybody..........

I'm not sure what dryhop is, but if it is the same as wheel hop we don't have it.  It does spin the tires a lot better than before though.  Of course I had to test that out right away LOL.

The dryhop is the thing you do after a burnout at the track

great for adrenaline,,,bad for the U-joints :D

some folks do things like that on the street I hear
I've never seen it myself ;)

just a word of advice. Dry hops are not good for the car. Like 360 mentioned bad for u-joints and also loads the convertor creating heat.

Loads of fun to change springs and shocks. But the results are fantastic. When I did my shocks I hadn't realized that the two plugs in the trunk by the spare tire were there to access the bolt for the top of the shock. There was some extra knuckle busting and cusring as a result. Looking forward to the pictures.

camjam,
When I replaced my shocks, the directions told me to remove those caps from the humps. I though, yeah, right, there are no caps. Sure enough, I pulled up the carpet in the trunk, and there they were.  :-[ :-[ :-[ It did make the job much easier, but WHO designed such a thing ::) ???

Ok still don't get dry hop...dryhop is when you hold the brake step on the gas hold it there before you spin the reartires and then launch the car???  or is it ....another name for power brakeing a car??

The point is the tires don't spin 8)

The burnout heats up the slicks and when creep out of the burnout box at 2mph the rear wheels
are going about 55.

take your foot off the gas and let the rear come to a stop.

Then to "test" the tires to see if the're are dry you power brake the car hard for about 1 second

The result should be to lift the front end high into the air while the back stands up planting the
springs and slicks down
