Painting my steering box?
« on: January 29, 2010 - 01:26:30 PM »
I got my Firm Feel stage 3 steering box yesterday.... :bananasmi

Was thinking about using engine clear coat paint to paint it after degreasing with brake cleaner....

I like the natural look but want to keep it clean...I figure degeasng it will allow corrosion to set in...right now its all clean and shiny! Want to keep it that way, easily.

thoughts?

Why not , or you can use cast iron engine enamel to paint it to look natural

If the clear gets hot it will change colors. I use the VHT cast iron rattle can and it is pretty close to actual cast iron.

I've used Metal Mask made by POR 15. It's a very tough paint. Just like their Rust encapsulator paint. I'm sure that it would hold up well.

You can dilute it with a reducer then shoot it thru a spray gun.
Or go to your nearest ACE hardware and find the Preval sprayer reduce and shoot it thru that.

I agree with Topcat.  I just finished painting my windshield wiper motor and power steering box with that Metal Mask and they look brand spankin new.  Yours is new, but I just wire wheeled mine and sprayed it.  They seriously look great.  Now I just have to check to see if they actually work.......I don't have a battery or engine in the beast to check em.  Oh well, they look pretty. :cooldancing:
