where did you pull the old wire from? I`m not sure if all years are the same, but on my 70 there`s a small gutter pressed in the trunkfloor ending in a hole. It`s on the left from the middle, a few inches from where the trunkfloor goes up towards the shocktowers

started with a shell. new trunk floor patch panels, shaker hood and trunk lid and lots and lots of sanding.  do not have many reference points other than service manuals, lousy "restoration" books and lots of good advice on this site.

If there is no hole go under by the tank. Look where the sending unit is and drill up threw the floor into the trunk.
