Sagging Bucket Seat Advice Needed
« on: February 08, 2010 - 02:46:23 PM »
Seems like as a new guy here I'm full of questions!!  Everyone here has been so helpful, I thought I'd give you guys another opportunity.  The driver side bucket seat in my 73 Barracuda is bent or worn to the point where it reclines another 20-30 degrees than the passenger side does.  I'm not sure if something is bent or if its something like the latch that is loose or worn to the point it allows it to rotate so much further backwards before the latch stops it.  Has anyone had a similar issue with one or more of their buckets and can share what you did to fix it?  Hopefully we're not talking about replacing the whole seat and there's a simpler (& cheaper) fix.

Thanks in advance, Jim

Jim,

When I first got my car it was like that. All I had to do was adjust that part on the seat bottom that the latch would meet up with. I don't know what it's called, it's a metal rod... but there are two screws to loosen and you can adjust it forward or back. I believe I moved mine backwards.

Thanks for the info Mike, if mine turns out to be that easy of a fix that would be a first for this car!!

Jim,

I hope that does the trick for you. I used to fold up and stuff a big bath towel between the top and bottom of the seat back to make it lean forward more.  Talk about a band-aid approach.

73 seats are different from Mike's 70's, so it probably won't be that easy.

Sounds like something is bent or broken.
