Autozone Suspension and Steering Parts

??? Has anyone ever had any bad experiences with Autozones suspension or steering replacement parts for the 'Cuda's or Challengers? I purchased a couple of things that look just like the original parts I removed. I also ordered a remanufactured power steering gear box and it was only $129.00 lifetime warranty. According to the sales person, they are original parts that have been rebuilt. Any good or bad stories about these? Some of the other popular sites that do the same thing want double and even triple that. Here's the real silly thing, the core is only worth 25.00. It's not worth giving it up for that price.  :)

the ball joints could be substandard , but given how much these cars are driven now it could take decades to find out !!

I had rebuilt the front end in my barracuda wit ha kit from Canton, or Cantor.  I can't remember the name of them now, but I was under the impression that they were a pretty reputable  company.  They always had a nice booth at all the swap meets.  They had a nice looking catalog.  The parts I got from them lasted all of about two years.  My alignment starte going out, and i took it to get aligned and was told that pretty much all of it needed to be replaced......  again...  I think this is probably an isolated incident, but I wn't buy from them anymore.  I got the second batch of replacements from ABC who I think was just recently bought out by Autozone.  they have been in use on the car for about 6 years now, and the alignment is still straight, and the front end is solid.

i would not skimp on cheap parts for suspention stuff. Use Moog or something similar. defintly use a good brand name.  I hate shopping at auto zone. Usually when i go to an auto parts store i want the guy behind the counter to know MORE than i do about cars. not less.

:) Thanks, you are right, I will still go the steering gear as it is the original Chrysler but the rest of it I will stay away from. I did get the idler arm and the pitman arm and they are not real great, they are going back when I go pick up my steering gear. Thanks for the input!  :)

Car Quest chassis parts are made by Moog. Napa's are by Dana.

Thanks Heminut, that's good information, I will check them out! Some of the online suppliers carry the good stuff but by the time you pay for shipping and handling I could have just bought them locally.  :)

Hey Plum, I just rebuilt my entire front end with a kit from Performance suspension, All the parts looked good, the only things that were stock were the rubber lower control arm bushings, the rest were poly. I used the same kit on my other challenger 5 years ago and everything is fine...

Yup, I got my kit from Mancini Racing and it came with Poly in everything except the lower bushings as well. The parts they supply came from PST too. That's good to hear that you are happy with the PST stuff. Waiting for my steering gear from AutoZone, hope it's what I expect. Should be okay but the other stuff for the steering sucks. :P
