Power steering hose
« on: February 17, 2010 - 07:03:19 PM »
I ordered  a power steering hose for my 72 fish.....saginaw pump....ordered at AUtozone.

Well, the hose I got looked right...but there is one bend on one end that is too far....should be a 45 degree bend and angled back whereas the new one is a 90 degree bend and not angled.

WOnt fit no how no way.

And its very very stiff tubing....."unbending: it isnt an option , at least not one I feel comfortable with.

So I took it back and hd them order a second, thinking it was just a bad piece.

Nope...same bends.

The counter guy suggested having napa take my ends and fit them into new hose....I thionk i would prefer a whole new unit, but I guess thats an option.....

Any advice?  I hate to order online cause if it wrong then its the same issue but now thru the mail.....grrrrrrrr.

I take it you have a 340.  Is this what you need?  Or is it what you have?  This is a saginaw on www.rockauto.com

This is not saginaw

318, definately a saginaw.

That picture looks exactly like what autozone was selling.....if you look at the bottom end of the hose....the bends on my original are less that what the new one has....the middle bend is less than half of what that new one is........cumulatively, that ads up to being "WAY OFF"....as it sits there is no way it reaches/fits...and the tubing isn't as soft as tranny line....I tried coercing it a bit and it wasnt budging....and was afraid of kinking it......

I dropped my hose off at NAPA today and the guy says he should be able to take my ends and use compression fitting-equipped ends to put my old ends onto new hose.

The pic of the one that the local shops can get all looked the same.

We'll see how that turns out.

I dont know if its my car that is goofy or what....but the off the shelf ones wont fit no how no way.

Sounds like you got something weird going on.  Glad to hear NAPA can help you out.  Try gettting Advance or Autozone to do someting like that for you.  Their motto....If it's not in the computer it can't be done or doesn't exist.
