How do you protect a new fuel tank finish?
« on: February 21, 2010 - 11:11:11 PM »
I guess this is a body shop question.
Can you use a sealer of some kind?
I just purchased a spectra premium tank, which looks galvanized, and is shiny new.
I have tank tone paint from eastwood, which I bought to paint my old tank, but then decided to just get a new one.
The new one just looks naked.
Thanks.

how did you prep it? sand and primer?
The tank tone directions say just make sure the tank is clean and spray it on, but I always thought galvanized steel needed more prep than that.
I remember using vinegar when I was a kid on galvanized gutters to allow paint to stick to them.

Tommy...what are you doing with your old tank?  I'm in the market if it's decent.

I replaced it because it seems to be leaking somewhere somehow, but I cant tell where. Somewhere on the top I think. Its all stained up, and since the top is stained, but not near the opening, it may have one or more pinholes. Dont see any rust though.
I'll post a picture, but my camera is acting funny.
