Any transmission experts here?
« on: September 19, 2004 - 06:38:20 AM »
I have a 727 that I need to rebiuld for the `69.This tranny was bought from Fairbanks for my `72 but after three attempts they still didn`t get me a decent one.First to second shifts pretty good, nice and firm and will chirp the tires, but second to third shift is mushy and feels like it slips a little.I have a manual from a local trans shop and my buddy has some experience doing powerglides but any advice in what to look for to find the problem(s) will help.

As far as a mushy and soft shift, it sounds like it could be your 2-3 accumulator has a leak, or just wasn't adjusted when they put the shift kit in... there's a couple springs in there and on most shift kits, those get taken out, and steel shafts go in to set a specified amount of fluid buildup before shifting! ::) ::) That's all I can think of off the top of my head...

CP... any ideas??

You can't adjust the accumulator. If the 1-2 is good, line pressure and throttle pressure should be okay. I would double check the band adjustment. Should be backed off from 72 inch pounds, 2 and 2.5 for the 2nd and low reverse bands respectively.

There may be a problem with the valve body itself or someone forgot to remove the check ball for the front clutch which will quicken the apply circuit.
