    It's been a bad month...follow up

    My 21 year-old son had a friend (Dave) attempt to commit suicide as I mentioned in a previous post. He is still in the hospital, with serious brain damage. Thanks for your prayers for him.

    I am not making the following up- it seems too bizzare to be real.
    On Wednesday of last week, my son's friend Ryan, around 24 or so, commited suicide by hanging. No note, no reasons given- he seemed perfectly fine the day before.

    The next day, my son found out a friend since grade school died of cancer. Age 21.

    THE NEXT DAY, my son learned another friend had ended his own life by shooting himself. Good kid, college student, etc.

    Three friends in three days, plus his buddy in the hospital still from his attempt. Quite a lot for a 21 year-old to handle. Pray for him and wisdom for me to know what to say to him.

    Unreal, please make sure that your son is ok. He may need alot of support for all of this.  :sadwavey:

    I agree, he's probably having a pretty rough time. That is hard to believe, there is so much to see and do in this world, I feel bad for you son and the families of his friends.   :-[

    My goodness, that's terrible!  Make sure your son knows you love him and that no matter what you are there for him.  This has got to be rough on him. I you can, get him some counseling or at least get him to talk with a priest or pastor.  No telling what is going through his mind

    I'll say a prayer for you and him and the families of those that suffered these terrible losses

    I hope your son is doing ok
    seems to me there`s a lot of suicides the past few years...  I wonder if its just the feeling or if statistics will tell the same story  :clueless:   I`ve heard of quiet a few around me too...  :walkaway:    always yougsters

    I agree with what everyone else has said. the only thing I'd add is listen to your son as well as trying to figure out what to say to him.

    We will keep your son and his friend in our prayers.  He needs someone to listen to him and a lot of attention now.

    Very odd. Are there any folks they all knew that may have been abusive?

    Physical / sexual abuse really messes folks up, for folks I have known, they really have had a hard time dealing with it as they age & become young adults.

    I would be looking for a pattern.

    Talk to your son about it for sure.

    Sounds like it's time for a father son cruise!   Life is a very precious thing. Go out side and look up at the stars.  Maybe a steak dinner.Crank some Zeppelin. Whatever it is, Let him know you love him. And that you are there for him anytime.

    Bottom line make sure he knows he is cared for and this(death) would never be the answer from any of lifes problems!!

    100% agree with what Shaun says...no matter how hard or tough things get...they are never that tough. One decision in life that can't be changed back

    I hope all turns out well my daughters boyfriend committed suicide last year  by hanging himself and we were shocked and sad  so i know how you must feel. good luck.

     :iagree: That kind of conversation has to be difficult. Just from the very begining positively reasure your son you are having this talk because you love and trust him. Sometimes our kids I beleive are asking themselves, "Why hasn't Dad or Mom said something, approached me about this?"

    Don't know how I missed this post yesterday, your family has been exposed to extreme circumstances, it will take a lot of caring, love, and strength...............together you can address all this and grow stronger....................I really beleive that.  :2thumbs:  :wave:
