Rear End Axle Housing
« on: September 26, 2004 - 01:41:38 PM »
Do you guys know if there are any performance differences between the b-body housings, for example, I got one out of a satellite and it has the puny 741 center section in it.  I will be putting my 489 center section in it but was wondering if there were any difference in the actual housings, or are they all the same ie axle diameter, bearing size, etc.  Just want to know before I put any money in this one I have. Thanks

..... it has the puny 741 center section in it.

Can you believe someone had a 741 with 2.76 gears at a show I was at last weekend for the price of the heavier, better 489 and 742's center sections....I just about laughed in front of the seller cause he was selling a 489 with 3.23's for cheaper. :o ;D  Too bad I didn't have any extra cash on me that day. ::)

If you can get your hands on a 489.... DO IT!! Prices are usually going from anywhere between $200-450... :o ::)

If you're lucky like me, and can pick one up with a 3.23 gear for $100 bucks... DO SO!!! :P :D
