440 six pack damper ?
« on: March 02, 2010 - 01:06:38 AM »
Aloha all
got a question before i put this motor together. i have a 74 440 block with the six pack rods / forged crank / KB hyper pistons and had the rotating assy neutral balanced (torque converter is also neutral balanced)  question is about the damper, do i need an ext balanced six pack damper or internal balanced damper being that my rotating assy has been balanced? i was under the impression that six pack motors had ext balanced damper due to heavy rods and rotating mass but since i added lighter pistons im at a loss as what to do. the damper that was on the motor is 2658457 and seems to be about an inch wide
any help appreciated thanks Steve

As you had the engine internally balanced ,,which is the smart way to handle this,, all you need a standard or SFI neutral balanced damper
