    Rear Axle U-Bolts

    Just putting my rear axle back in and I'm wondering, should there be a washer in between the nut and the shock plate?  :dunno:

    I've never seen them on my cars. And the new u-bolts I've purchased never had washers.

    Sorry to hijack but I think that this fits the topic too.

    What is the correct torque for the u-bolts? Should I just tighten them up to "tight enough"?

    Better go with the right torque spec. 

    "tight enough" scares me on those bolts.

    just ordered new u-bolts and nuts with my espo springs and they didnt send me none,guess ill call them back.. :dunno:

    just buy some 1/2 washers , it will probably set you back $2

    My service manual (1973) says 45 foot pounds. Not too tight. The manual also points out "Do Not Over Tighten" the U-bolts.

    Good Thread,  Was wondering the torque and just think on the trucks I work on we torqued them to 400lbs each.  My arms are much stronger now hehehehehehe :bigsmile:
