hey guys,
I`m about to pick up work on my car again and the first thing I`d like to tackle is the rearend ( dana 60 with 4.10 gears) . Before I took apart the car I drove it a few times. It had been garaged for 8 years or so when I got it. I changed fluids before driving and there was a little bit of metalflake in the rear end old oil. While accellerating there was a sound coming from the rear , kinda oscillating resonation. Only when accellerating. The sound disappeared when I let go the throttle.
I thought maybe the inner pinion bearing could be shot, but since I never took apart a rear end before ( in fact, I`m not looking forward to do so either... ) I`d like to hear some opinions first. Could this sound be caused by something else too? maybe wrong pinionangle or something?
The rear is obviously not in the car now and brakes are off. When I turn the axles or yoke, it feels real good and smooth... no play anywhere...
