I'll look at mine when I get home. I've never had a problem with floats being held down. It was always a bad or dirty needle and seat or that o-ring right in the middle letting fuel go past it. Did you try swapping the float with the front or rear if a 6-pack\barrel or on the secondary side if a 4-bbl. Wizard could be right too. Shake that float to see if any gas is inside it. You prpbably already did that, right?

Yea, floats are dry inside.  And as I mentioned, with the springs out I was able to actually see the float rise up and close through the site hole.  This was not the case when the spring was in.  I have been running without the springs for a while.  It just puzzled me as to why I had the problem in the first place.  Maybe it's like taking a kidney or tonsils out.  I don't know.

the spring should have minimal pressure it is just to limit movement from vibration , your needle & seat should be mid range on the adjustment height with the nut with the float in the right range , it sonds to me like you have the the spring installed incorrectly
